Nurse leaders can influence diverse groups of people. This activity is designed to challenge you to think about the opportunities that come with leading and managing a cross-generational workforce and how the concept of caring is integrated into leadership. Assume you are a nurse manager tasked with strengthening your unit’s “culture of caring.” You have more than 30 nurses on staff from various generations. Think about how you might approach this task.
 
 
 
Answer the following questions:
 
How do you think leadership would be different for a person who leads only people between 18 and 35 years of age compared with a person whose followers are mostly over the age of 40? Consider the following groups: Gen Z, Millennials, Gen Xers, and Baby Boomers.
What strategies would you recommend for a person who becomes the leader of a cross-generational group?
What aspects of “culture of caring” are needed as part of your organization’s mission?
What type of leadership style would you integrate to foster a culture of caring?
