Healthcare Strategy
Introduction: The process for healthcare strategy development follows a logical sequence of steps. Decisions made at each step will have implications and consequences at successive steps in the process, so forward thinking is very important.
You are the vice-president in charge of your hospital’s strategic planning process this year. (invent a hospital) You are addressing your key stakeholders and planning participants at the first strategic planning meeting.
Your assignment is to create a presentation describing and explaining the six-step process for strategy development in your hospital’s healthcare strategic management action plan. Additionally, explain strategic alternatives available to healthcare organizations today.
Your presentation should adhere to the following format:
1. Write a brief introduction (no more than 2 paragraphs) about your hospital. What kind of hospital, area, how many people can you serve, types of services, etc.
2. Review broader strategic directions. These can include but are not limited to quality care, diversity, advanced technology, etc. Using at least 5-6 broader strategic directions would be best.
3. Set strategic planning objectives ( 5-6 at least)
4. Identify actions for strategic planning objectives (about 4 short-term initiatives)
5. Identify actions for strategic planning objectives (about 4 long term initiatives)
6. Set timelines to execute
7. Assign responsibilities
8. Determine resources needed
9. Determine how results will be measured (examples would be external analysis, service area analysis, internal analysis, SWOT, etc.)
10. Conclusion
The presentation should be three pages or more. Do not be vague and discuss all aspects. You should use at least three reliable academic sources that are peer-reviewed or academic in nature, to support your presentation. You can use images and graphics, along with supporting references and in-text citations, but they do not count towards the three-page minimum. All sources used must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations.
